PRSA Hangover Regatta, Tuesday, January 1, 2008!  Tom Ballantine was PRO; Dave Lincoln drove the crash boat; Sean Reilly was the helper.  17 Lasers and three Interlakes pre-registered for the event, and found windy conditions but nice sunshine of this the first sailing day of 2008. Actual winds recorded at National Airport were:

  • Noon    W 16

  • 1 PM    NNW 22

  • 2 PM    NW 20

  • 3 PM    WNW 22

  • 4 PM   W 22

The afternoon high temperature was 53 degrees at 1 PM.   Here are results. Here are some stories. Here is a video.

PRSA End-of-Season Awards Banquet, Saturday, November 17!   64 Skippers, Associates, and Guests gathered at the party room of the Marina Towers Apartments, near the Mirant Power Plant, just a short drive south of the Marina.  Emily Pavilon and Barb Thompson were this year's organizers.  Dinner was catered by the Lebanese Taverna.  Here are photos.

PRSA Fall Finale  Saturday, November 10 - For those who couldn't get enough sailing in this season, we had cloudy skies, a high of 50 degrees, northerly winds at 12-15 MPH, with a water temperature of 48 degrees.  Robert Bennett was PRO, Martin Howell, Tiffany Bludau,  and Becky Mach were RC helpers. Fall Sunday Series,  September 16  through November 4

This Fall we have introduced Portsmouth Class (handicap) racing for one-design boats on days when fewer than 3 boats of a class show up for racing. 

Congratulations Barney Harris and David Byron!   PRAF skipper Barney Harris and crew David Byron took first place  in the 2007 Albacore National Championships and then in the 2007 Albacore International Championships!  Congratulations, guys! Way to go!

PRSA Annual Presidents & Leukemia Cup Regatta
This years Presidents/Leukemia Cup Regatta was September 8th and 9th. The festivities started Friday night with a picnic catered by Outback Steak House. Registration started Friday night and again on Saturday.

Spring Sunday Series,  April 1 through June 3

Racing at Hains Point with first warning at 11:30, and a hot grill available for the social afterwards.  Click calendar & results on the left to see results, get the sailing instructions, etc.  Review the new sailing instructions.  Note this year we are not using a course board to indicate the course to sail. Rather we are using flags -- a letter (W; O; or T) and a number (1; 2; or 3).  The number always indicates the number of times to round the leeward mark!  Results.

Spring Regatta, Saturday & Sunday May 26 & 27

It was painfully light on Saturday, but there was a little breeze in the cove.  Lower course got 5 races and the upper course got 5.  Sunday provided some of the best racing of the season -- winds from the south between 10 and 14 mph and 4 nice long races featuring 5 mile long legs.  Results

Spring Icebreaker, Saturday March 24

12 Lasers, 4 Lightnings, and 1 Hobie 18 competed on a cloudy day with eastly winds in the 3 to 8 range.  Erich Hesse bested the Lasers with Eric Johnson second.  Rick Welch bested the Lightnings with Matt Klise second. 

US Sailing Basic Race Management Seminar conducted at WSM, Saturday, February 10! 

17 area skippers attended a very well-run seminar on February 10, conducted by Taran Teague and Bruce Bingman.

Winter Series 2007

Finally a day to justify calling this a winter series.  On January 21 temperatures were in the low 30s.  Erich Hesse bested the field of 12 sailors that day.  Results
