Winners Write up, Frostbite Series #3 - 12/02/2007
Dave Teale

Since there were no Eric(h)'s sailing, there was a good chance that this would be the first week none of them would win. Before the first two races, I noticed an occasional shift coming from the left side (more pronounced during the prestart for 2 nd) so I opted to start at the pin. On the run of the 1st race I was in position to be on the inside at the leeward mark but was not in the lead - until I caught a puff from the VA side and then rounded inside. I hadn't realized it was a one lap race at the time, and in hindsight the inside position was key to the win. Later on I started near the boat end, but because of the crowd and poor timing, I suffered in dirty air. Then I started mid-line.

One race a few of us who started near the pin overstood the port layline upwind. Coming over to the starboard layline on a reach and approaching a crowd, I swerved to duck and capsized. Lesson re-learned: avoid approaching inside the 2 boat length circle on port. My other windward mark roundings were better. Sometimes I found myself overstood on starboard a tad but used that position to round with speed, and sail deep if desired.

In the 2nd race when the wind died I tried to keep the boat moving. I also wanted to start tacks gradually. Thanks to Rob (and Scott) for running races.
