[Lars asked if I would/wanted to do the write up this week.]
Even though Lars won the day, he graciously asked if I would send a write-up. The wind was light, reported at 5, and the water was so flat I remember watching my wake going downwind.
I imagine the main things that helped me were my weight and the new boat - things which cut resistance. Otherwise, I tried to follow Erich's advice and not have a real baggy sail (one hand's length at max depth) going upwind. I wasn't able to point as well as others; perhaps I should have used a slight leeward heel.
I wanted to minimize the number of maneuvers, and tried to stay away from others in the light stuff. Sometimes I chose to start mid-line, away from the pack in order to have clear air.
Downwind, I used a little bit of vang, but I've heard some say to use none. I was by the lee most of the time.
