Spring Series #3 Results

The wind was light most of the day filling in three separate times for about an hour each. At the start of the first race the wind was out of the South/ Southeast and with the tide running out boats had a tough time staying above the line. At some point during the second upwind leg the reach mark drifted away and passed the weather mark. Because the second lap was a windward leeward it did not affect most boats, just the Catamarans which had two triangles. At about this point the wind shifted 180 degrees out of the North/Northwest so the downwind leg was a beat, and the finish was with spinakers flying and two dramatic finishes with Nabeel edging out Frank by half a boat length, and Ben Forman overtaking Stuart in the final 30 feet.

The course was reset and the second race went fairly smoothly. With the smaller triangle due to the wind direction the committee boat had a great view of the racing with some very close finishes and Paul out in front by a mile. By the time the last boats were finishing the wind had shifted 90 to 100 degrees, now blowing out of the west.

A new course was set and again the committee boat had a great view of the course with some very tight racing and some entertaining spinaker work. The wind finally filled in on the downwind leg so all the boats piled up at the leeward mark and we had lightnings, hobies, hamptons, and mobjacks all finishing together. I think probably 20 boats finished in about a 3 minute span. With Swill Dog again providing a dramatic duel at the finish.

If PRSA has a special service award it should go to Craig Huzway for his work in moving marks and starting lines to set three different courses. He was and invaluable help, as was Susan Kaufman who did the times and signals. Also assisting were Corrine White, Devin Welch, Cathy Bleakly recording finishes, and John Hart calling the line.
