Potomac River Sailing Association
Spring
Series #5
Sunday 5/5/2002
By Chris Bolton - Race Committee Chair
We towed some boats up, but others
refused the tow. They said "If we can't sail up there, it won't be enough
wind to race". Probably true, but once we got everyone up there, I started
racing anyway. Figured they might as well drift around the marks as opposed to
drifting around the RC boat. Breeze was mostly southeast to south, but very
patchy and light. We did 4 races; first three were one lap triangles and the
last one a 2 lap W-L. One Laser showed up and matched up pretty well with the
Albacores, especially upwind. Eventually we had 3 cats, 5 Albacores (and one
Laser), and 2 Mobjacks. The wind came up nicely as we sent everyone in, only to
die halfway home. We put half the fleet under tow, and the breeze came up strong
again right at the light pier, creating some anxious moments as we turned the
corner.
